Debate: Rich but dishonest or poor but honest. - Karthik Srivastava From class 10 ‘A’

“THE GREATEST TRUTH IS HONESTY, AND THE GREATEST FALSEHOOD IS DISHONESTY.” by Abu Bakr( BA-KAR). With this I wish the respected judges, teachers, and all my dear fellow-mates a very pleasant morning. Today I Karthik Srivastava From class 10 ‘A’ Druk house am on this great podium taking the grand opportunity to speak in front of you on the occasion of Intra-House Debate competition to debate on the topic, “It is Better to be poor and honest than rich and dishonest.” I and my partner will be speaking for the motion.

Before beginning I would like to state a famous proverb by Robert Green Ingersoll, “ EVERY MAN IS DISHONEST WHO LIVES UPON THE LABOR OF OTHERS, NO MATTER IF HE OCCUPIES A THRONE.” With this I will state my points:

It is an assumption that honest people are poor, no they are not. Warren Buffet is very rich! I know lots of honest people are who rich and I know lots of scammers who went to jail. Honesty is good because you don't need to have a good memory to remember all the lies. Honest men are rare and respected by all as the great religious leader, example Lord Buddha, Lord Jain all left their houses. Whose fathers were king and they were rich but still than they lead an honest and poor life. And are worshiped by people till now. Hones and poor man are always honest with their profession work because they have high moral and ethical value.  They have courage to argue with wrong and rich person. From inside, they have strength even in the modern times, “Gandhi Ji” father of nation who is respected above all the political post like President, Prime Minister and other rich person like Tata, Birla, Ambani.

But the love of money can motivate any evil on this earth and make any one dishonest. Thus most of the rich people are dishonest. Rich sometimes get rich by oppressing the poor. There are many wicked rich people in this world who have hardened their hearts filled with arrogancy, selfishness, harshness, cold-hardheartedness throwing parties wasting their money on useless things, who are overfed and have no pity nor concerned about the poor but are piled up with wealth, pride and refused to pay their workers, who do not even defend the rights of the poor nor share their wealth or food with poor and needy. But no doubt, an honest person has to suffer more than dishonest and rich person but at last, hones wins and gains high order of respect in the social political system.

But most of the dishonest people either ended up in jail or got robbed of their freedom whether they are rich or poor. If your career is built on lies, then you've essentially created a prison for yourself. It's a foundation primed for collapse. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? If you speak, honestly you can talk eye to eye and work with no worries.

Whether you're rich or poor, dishonest people are always hoping people won't find out the truth.  They're always suspicious and they live their lives waiting for the right time to start being honest because they want to be free.  This point can be explained by the proverb present in the Bible, “BETTER IS A POOR MAN WHO WALKS IN HIS INTEGRITY THAN A RICH MAN WHO IS CROOKED IN HIS WAYS.”

So I would like to conclude that being rich or poor doesn't matter because money can't buy the things that really matter like happiness.
