A happy
Reading Day to all. I am Meena Acharya from the 11 Art and I am feeling really
pleasured to share my journey and inspirations about the worlds of reading in
front of you and here it begins.
“Dear fellows,
please throw away the TV because students watching it have no eyes have been
popped out and instead create a world of imagination by providing yourself a
book.”
Reading can
be so good as going deep into a beautiful dream. It’s when we read we come
closer to a world with wonders, wonders of reality and fiction. Reading means
the ocean of knowledge. Without accomplishing great knowledge we face is lots
of competitive persons. To fill the emptiness in our self what we need is
reading skills and conveying what we really mean to say we are a day dreamer
whose dreams fade away just as we open our eyes.
Through
knowledge or reading we can heal every emotion and problems. Our capacity to
read is our reflection of how far we can move in our lives. It’s our power of
mind that proves us that Buddha lies within us.
A true
reader is one’s best judge because we have the knowledge that differentiates us
from good and bad. Reading is not only about reading a prose.
I started
my reading habits not just once reading a thick novel, but by hearing bed times
stories from my mom and I discovered later on that my mom’s stories have built
a reading world for me and it really built a world of curiosity for me.
When I was
a kid, every night my mom used to tell bed time stories. But she was a busy
woman, she could not tell her stories every night. But I was so addicted to her
stories that I could not sleep without it. For the solution to this problem,
She started bringing a fairly tales and lady bird's story. Though I wasn’t so good
at reading. I still tried…. And my reading skills improved since then, I wasn’t
good at reading, but because of my interest, my standard improved drastically…
I stared reading those small pages of poem to stories and then now I am able to
read and understand those thick novels.
And my
relationship with the book had become so strong that I can leave the world but
not books.
I have such
a mutual understanding with books that sometimes I laugh out loud thinking what
so funny it was and sometimes I shed tears silently thinking how the character
bears out the pain. It’s really not me who have brought me here, but the power
of knowledge that dragged me here.
As a reader,
I am inspired to read books of Stephen R. Covey and I would say I am the
greatest fan of him because he is in the process of writing his 28th
series and I am in the process of reading his 23rd series and that
is “The seven habits of highly Effective People” and I am sure I will finish
reading all the series within this year.
People say a
smile is the best make up but for me reading is my best make up because what’s
the use of having such a pretty appearance when we really lack the interior
appearance that is the knowledge. Right?
I
quote
“Don’t land
others your book because the book that I have in my shelve are the books that I
borrowed from others.” And my personal tips to improve reading skills are:
1. Start reading with an adventures
book or biography because it built curiosity within yourself.
2. Build a world of imagination as it’s
a window to the world.
3. Love noting down all vocabularies
that is beyond your understanding and always have a habit of nothing quotations
and etc…
4. Always have temptation to explore in
the world of reading.
Reading skills are essential to success in society today. The ability to
record is highly valued and very important for social and economic advancement.
Reading books can develop one’s vocabulary. Incorporating these new words in
every speaking will increase language skills and boost confidence in the
speakers as well. Having a large vocabulary is not only impressive but useful
in many areas of public speaking.
Do you all know why we lack in speaking skills and why it’s so tough for
us to adapt the language code? It’s because we don’t have the habit of reading
books. If I described about a simple example, then it would be; Our students
have got freedom to choose our book from the library and we all proudly carry
it in our hands. But if you all be honest, how many books have you read so far
one. ..Two…three...Some may not have read a single. To improve our speaking
skills we just can’t rely on the textbooks, we have to go beyond the textbooks
like magazine, reader, etc…
Hence the bottom line is:
“Hope for change, move for it.”
And we have a happy reading journey ahead.
Thank
You.
