A Review on Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Chhimi XII C

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Title: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
 Author: Rick Riordon
Genre:  Young adult fiction and fantasy
Major characters: Percy Jackson,  Anambah chase ,Groover underhood.

This novel brings forward the ancient myth of greek to world immortal gods watch over the mankind. Monsters comes out from tarturus to create chaos and disorder on earth while demigods, children of god and human ensure that the monster are send back to tarturus. This noble is centered on a young teenager name percy Jackson, the son of paseidon. It comes out as a shock to him when he learns that the Greek gods are real as any human beings on earth. The problem takes its roots when zeus, one of the big three gods and the god of the sky, lose his most powerful weapon, thunder bold his suspects Poseidon of the robbery. It is up to percy and his friends Anabeth and Groven to recover the lost item before the winter solstices. But the quest isn’t a child play. Percy and his friends tackle many hardships in recovering the lost item with the time lacking by taking suggestion of Mr.Bernard, they travel to underworld suspecting Haydes behind the robbery. The truth slowly unfolds and to the astonishment of everyone, the mastermind behind the robbery turns out to be Kornos, the dangerous and powerful of all monsters. To avenge the gods for his death, Kornos slowly raise bringing distruction in to the world. At the end,Percy and his friends gets successful in their mission. But his task remains incomplete as Kornos slowly starts to rise the book comes to an end with Percy’s adventure continuing in the second of series, the sea of monsters Anabeth Chase is the character I like the most. She was a source of inspiration for me. Though being a girl she is as brave as she is other two male friends. Throughout the mission, she overcomes every hardship with her calm nature. She is a wise girl due to her intelligence. It was amusing to see her know everything. It intrigued me to know that the secret behind her intelligent was her books and as a result, I was inspired to read more books.

Zeus is one such character I dislike; the very reason is due to his super-god pride. He thinks no end of himself and he is impulsive without thinking he blamed Poseidon of the robbery.

After completing the novel, the morals I have learned from it is:
1. No matter how powerful the evil is, the good always sledge hammers it.
2. Nothing can stop a willing heart.

For people loving adventurous and fictions books like me, the Percy Jackson series are the best books you can hold on. The book is unavailable in our school library but if you like, the story there is a movie version of the novel. In addition, to find out what happens in the sea of monsters, go hurry up and grab the Percy Jackson series. It is worth reading and I as a reader assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Thank you and Happy Reading Year.

Review on The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Miss Dawa Zangmo XIIC

Image result for the monk who sold his ferrariTitle : The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari
Author: Robin Sharma
published by jaico Publishing House, Mumbai
Page: 198 pages
Cost : Rs. 350

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari is wonderful book filled with many inspirational values that will enforce one to reflect into ourselves, give some thought to our life, the daily activities you are engaged in and to goals in life.

It’s a story told from the perspective of one of his associates who admire Mantle’s great success and aspires to be like him.  The story revolves around the protagonist “Julian Mantle,” a high profile Attorney with busy schedules who sets priority that centre around money, power and prestige. Mr. Mantle has everything in life that one would aspire of yet, the hunger for more fame consumes him finally. He suffers from a series heart attack which brings a turning point in his life that completely altered his notion towards life. He no longer hunts for those materialistic possessions rather he sells everything including his most treasured Ferrari. He realizes that wealth, fame and success were not everything in life. He goes to India in search of meaning in life, where he meets with some mythical saints. When he returned home, his associates is amazed by the transformation mantle has gone through.

The very important ideology that I would like to convey here is, with inline to Mantle’s life, human desire is never ending emotion; all he wanted was more and more. Today due to earthquake, Nepal is suffering from the massive destruction, people are in need of clothes, food and shelters, yet the lucky people who have their properties secure, they tend to sell a bottle of water which is actually Nu.15 in almost ten times the price, Which shows humans are unbelievable who want to be rich in the hubbub of all the destruction, instead if that person donate the basic things in charity to the needy people, the immense satisfaction that will get is much more worth appreciating and blissful. Money can’t buy everything. So give love to all, because no one know at what point and when we will be in need of it and desire creates chaos not the satisfaction.
The character I liked in this story is Julian Mantle because a real human is one who learns from his mistakes, not the one who repeats his mistakes.

“He slept beneath the moon, he basted beneath the sun. He lived the life of going to do and died with nothing done”_James Albery

I would recommend everyone to read this book because it is worth reading with good morals, a fable about fulfilling your dreams and reaching your destiny and a tale which provide you step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, abundance and joy.

Debate: Rich but dishonest or poor but honest. - Karthik Srivastava From class 10 ‘A’

“THE GREATEST TRUTH IS HONESTY, AND THE GREATEST FALSEHOOD IS DISHONESTY.” by Abu Bakr( BA-KAR). With this I wish the respected judges, teachers, and all my dear fellow-mates a very pleasant morning. Today I Karthik Srivastava From class 10 ‘A’ Druk house am on this great podium taking the grand opportunity to speak in front of you on the occasion of Intra-House Debate competition to debate on the topic, “It is Better to be poor and honest than rich and dishonest.” I and my partner will be speaking for the motion.

Before beginning I would like to state a famous proverb by Robert Green Ingersoll, “ EVERY MAN IS DISHONEST WHO LIVES UPON THE LABOR OF OTHERS, NO MATTER IF HE OCCUPIES A THRONE.” With this I will state my points:

It is an assumption that honest people are poor, no they are not. Warren Buffet is very rich! I know lots of honest people are who rich and I know lots of scammers who went to jail. Honesty is good because you don't need to have a good memory to remember all the lies. Honest men are rare and respected by all as the great religious leader, example Lord Buddha, Lord Jain all left their houses. Whose fathers were king and they were rich but still than they lead an honest and poor life. And are worshiped by people till now. Hones and poor man are always honest with their profession work because they have high moral and ethical value.  They have courage to argue with wrong and rich person. From inside, they have strength even in the modern times, “Gandhi Ji” father of nation who is respected above all the political post like President, Prime Minister and other rich person like Tata, Birla, Ambani.

But the love of money can motivate any evil on this earth and make any one dishonest. Thus most of the rich people are dishonest. Rich sometimes get rich by oppressing the poor. There are many wicked rich people in this world who have hardened their hearts filled with arrogancy, selfishness, harshness, cold-hardheartedness throwing parties wasting their money on useless things, who are overfed and have no pity nor concerned about the poor but are piled up with wealth, pride and refused to pay their workers, who do not even defend the rights of the poor nor share their wealth or food with poor and needy. But no doubt, an honest person has to suffer more than dishonest and rich person but at last, hones wins and gains high order of respect in the social political system.

But most of the dishonest people either ended up in jail or got robbed of their freedom whether they are rich or poor. If your career is built on lies, then you've essentially created a prison for yourself. It's a foundation primed for collapse. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? If you speak, honestly you can talk eye to eye and work with no worries.

Whether you're rich or poor, dishonest people are always hoping people won't find out the truth.  They're always suspicious and they live their lives waiting for the right time to start being honest because they want to be free.  This point can be explained by the proverb present in the Bible, “BETTER IS A POOR MAN WHO WALKS IN HIS INTEGRITY THAN A RICH MAN WHO IS CROOKED IN HIS WAYS.”

So I would like to conclude that being rich or poor doesn't matter because money can't buy the things that really matter like happiness.

The key towards achieving the IMPOSSIBLE-- By Pema Wangmo XII B

“True courage is pursuing your dreams even when everyone says it’s impossible”. With this, I would like to wish you all a pleasant morning. Respected principal sir, vice principals, T.O.D, teachers and all my friends. Today, I would like to take this opportunity to speak on the key towards achieving the IMPOSSIBLE
When we say impossible, 99% of us tend to think that it is something that can never be achieved.  We follow the same mentality that has been passed down to us through our forefathers without bothering to bring a change. The world is developing. Telephones are being replaced by smart phones while people are being replaced by intelligent machines. So, I would say that it is high time that we bring a change to our thoughts. Thinking properly, you would realize that the impossible has been achieved several times in the past. The things such as computers and vehicles which we are seeing as normal objects of usage today must have been considered impossible to be achieved a few centuries back. What I mean to say through this example is that, things are always considered impossible until it’s achieved.
The impossible has always been achieved from thinking outside the box. In short, the way we think matters a lot. To make a difference, we need to do great things. Problems must be taken as a challenge that will lead you one step forward towards your goal. Not too long ago, I remember one of my teachers saying, “I tried my best to confuse you all with my teaching”. I was surprised as to what he meant by his words. Later, I realized that he was confusing us so that we could make mistakes and learn through them. I was fascinated by his thoughts. Likewise, thinking differently or doing different things doesn’t make you strange or wrong but unique.
Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drown out your inner voice. Most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart no matter how silly or challenging your attempt may seem. Our heart somehow already knows what we really want to become.
Have a want, to feel like what you have right now isn't enough. You can always build something better. One day, there will be something better and more important than even the smart watch. Don't be afraid of looking foolish by questioning something that has been commonly accepted for years. Notions like "that isn't possible" or "no one's ever done that so we can't" should be something that you carelessly cast to the wind because that kind of thinking is just an excuse to avoid doing something great.

So, to sum up, the key towards achieving the impossible is within you. What is required is the courage to throw away our thoughts of fear and the heart to follow our dreams.
